Ofsted chief defends school trips

The chief education inspector has criticised the second largest teachers' union for urging their members to stop taking children on school trips because of the fear of legal action.

Ofsted's David Bell told MPs on the education committee that trips and outdoor activities were a valuable part of youngsters' schooling.

Chris Keates, general secretary of NASUWT, had told the same committee earlier this week that society was becoming "increasingly litigious".
