CMU:

• represents the largest group of universities in the sector, educating more than half a million students, 50% of whom are part-time
• supports targets to widen participation in higher education and believes that students should be able to attend universities which are well resourced whatever course they choose and wherever they choose to study

• hugely successful in widening participation, delivering diversity, quality and relevant research
  
• key players in regional and local regeneration as well as being net contributors to the national economy
  
• key supporters of both business and the public sector by providing a wide range of courses, including postgraduate courses, leading to professional and workplace qualifications
  
• in the forefront of partnerships with schools, FE and vocational education and have actively promoted the concept of learning communities with other stakeholders
  

Other facts

• Over half of CMU undergraduate (home and EU) students are part-time and return to study with caring commitments and/or are on courses linked to employment, building economic and social capital for the future as well as the present
  
• CMU graduates equal those of Oxford and Cambridge in employability
