About ASDAN

ASDAN
ASDAN is an educational charity, whose trustees include Richard Pring, Professor of Education at Oxford University, Jean Corston MP, Anita Higham (OBE) and Brian Fletcher, two former secondary Headteachers. The purpose of the charity is to promote the personal and social development of learners through the achievement of ASDAN awards, so as to enhance their self-esteem, their aspirations and their contribution to their community.

ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) is approved as an Awarding Body for qualifications within the National Qualifications Framework, regulated by QCA, ACCAC and CEA.

ASDAN programmes and qualifications are:
  • Relevant to a variety of contexts including schools, colleges, training provision, probation, voluntary sector, social services and secure units
  • Approved by DfES (Section 96)
  • Referred to in the 14-19 Green Paper in the context of "Recognising Achievement"
  • Recommended in the Dearing Report
  • Recognised by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)
  • Acknowledged by over 140 Institutions of Higher Education
  • Recommended by the DfES for pupils disapplied from the national curriculum
Over 3500 centres (mainly schools and colleges) are registered to run ASDAN programmes and qualifications in the UK. ASDAN is also proving very successful in New Zealand, where nearly 100 schools are delivering ASDAN: www.asdan.co.nz
