Pupils 'tired by exam rush'

Students taking AS Level exams this summer may have been too tired to do themselves justice.

Mike Tomlinson has called on the government's exam regulators to reconsider their decision to hold all exams in each AS Level subject on the same day.

The former chief schools inspector of schools, who was commissioned by ministers to check the grading of this year's AS and A Level exams, argued that students could fail to show their true abilities because they were exhausted.

Today's Times reports that Oxford and Cambridge are reintroducing their own entrance papers after being overwhelmed by candidates with top A Level grades.
