Welcome

The National Federation of Builders (NFB) was founded in 1896 and now represents over 1,000 building contractors, which are primarily small to medium size enterprises with turnover under £100m (SMEs).  We offer a range of services to our members to provide a complete package of support.  Our staff are close to the industry and have in-depth knowledge of today’s changing business practices.

A core strength of the NFB is its dual national and regional structure.  With eight business centres spread across England and Wales, we understand the local situation of our members and are able to provide relevant, region-specific support.

One of the key benefits of membership is access to our specialist advice lines.  Covering legal, employment, taxation, health and safety, planning, environmental, technical, training and government funding issues, members can quickly access expert knowledge tailored to the needs of their company, provided by highly-qualified advisors with first-hand knowledge of the industry.

Another key area of the NFB is training.  As a consensus federation with CITB-ConstructionSkills, the industry’s training organisation, we are ideally placed to provide specially-designed training to meet our members’ development needs.  The training programme is constantly evolving to cover changing legislation and different workplace requirements.

The NFB provides a number of additional services, including a monthly policy newsletter to keep members abreast of changes and a quarterly review of industry issues. We also visit members to conduct seminars on key issues and provide staff training programmes. We work with other organisations who can add value to our members' businesses and by using the collective buying power of our members, we negotiate favourable terms for the provision of services and equipment.

As a member of the Construction Confederation, the NFB has excellent access to local and central government and acts as a voice to lobby for the interests of companies working in the built environment sector.  We maintain close contact with our partner federations within the Confederation to ensure we work together to effectively address the issues that matter to our members.
