Corporate Social Responsibility

BUPA - British United Provident Association

BUPA Community Connections

BUPA is closely involved with over 330 communities around the world. Due to the nature of the work the organisation does, BUPA people are naturally brought into the lives others. BUPA Community Connections supports the work done by BUPA people in their local communities and encourages staff to get involved in socially responsible initiatives. Man in garden

BUPA is a member of Business in the Community (BITC). BITC’s Per Cent Club requires members to commit a minimum of 0.5 percent of pre-tax profits to community investment. BUPA has exceeded this for the past five years and intends to continue to do so.

Employee volunteering is promoted in BUPA, as it is a fun and motivational way for our staff to contribute to their community and the wider society. Amongst others, initiatives include: Book Buddies, BUPA’s national reading partners scheme, and mentoring projects.

BUPA has teamed up with the charity Life Education, which provides personal, social and health education, to run mobile classrooms. The buses visit primary schools teaching children abut their bodies and how they work and last year touched the lives of 850,000 children.

Last year, in partnership with think tank the Social Market Foundation, we produced a book entitled 'Giving Something Back: Business, volunteering and healthy communities', which considers the role that government and business can play in pushing forward the employee volunteering agenda.
