Trial by jury under threat

David Blunkett is considering plans to give judges new powers to try a case without a jury where it is believed there is a serious risk that an attempt will be made to bribe or intimidate jurors.

The proposal may form part of the Criminal Justice Bill in next week's Queen's Speech.
