Care workers who have been accused of sex abuse in children's homes have been the victims of a "significant number of miscarriages of justice", according to a report by the Commons home affairs select committee.

The report, which is out today, says the lives of many innocent people have been ruined by the police's pursuit of unfounded allegations and recommend new safeguards covering the investigation and trial of suspected child abusers.
