Home Office battles with Brown over prison funds
David Blunkett and Gordon Brown are locked in disagreement over the home secretary's attempts to secure extra funds for Britain's prisons, reports today's Independent.
Blunkett has ordered an independent inquiry into the prison, probation and youth justice services. Brown's allies say the home secretary had told the chancellor he wouldn't proceed with the inquiry without his backing.
