Budget 2006: Stakeholders respond, 22 March
Jonathan Kestenbaum, chief executive of NESTA, said: "We welcome the chancellor’s expansion of R&D tax credits to medium size companies and the other announcements that will encourage investment in the UK economy. Chancellor Brown has been talking a lot about the need for the UK to build a culture of innovation in order to retain its global competitiveness, and it is encouraging to see that the current budget is capitalising on that with measures that incentivise innovation.
"In particular, we are delighted that the government is setting out radical new plans for investment in scientific education and discovery. Science education is crucial to the UK’s future capacity for innovation. Our overall scientific research base and public science literacy depend on a strong foundation at school level."

Jeremy Newton, [former] Chief Executive of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, said: "We welcome the chancellor's review into how Britain's creative industries can help the manufacturing sector. However, recent research commissioned by NESTA emphasises that action is needed to support the creative industries themselves if they are to be in a position to help underperforming sectors.
Innovation Strategy, 19 December 2003
Chris Powell, Chairman of NESTA, said: "The DTI needs to recognise more strongly the potential for innovation within small businesses and their contribution to the economy. The Innovation Report, coupled with the Bridging the Finance Gap document, could have outlined measures to support investment in small, innovative businesses. We believe that high value-added businesses are a special case and should receive tailored support."
