The latest Metropolitan Police figures show rises in street crime of 20 per cent between January and July this year, an increase of 20 per cent and if trends continue street crime levels could break all previous records.

The worst area is Lambeth - scene of an experimental policing policy on cannabis use - as Scotland Yard struggles to contain the problem despite high profile large scale operations in the capital.
