Cars being dumped as cost of scrapping rises

A report from the Local Government Association shows that the numbers of cars being dumped at the roadside has risen over the past five years, reflecting a fall in the price of scrap metal.

The rise in dumping was highlighted by Tony Blair last week who said that it was a "blight" on communities. The LGA report points to the cost to local authorities of dealing with the abandoned vehicles, as well as the environmental dangers to the community.
