Draft Charities Bill

The end of September saw the report of the Joint Scrutiny Committee on the Draft Charities Bill which made a number of recommendations on the regulation of public collections. The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA), a regulatory body established by charities to work with members to ensure high standards in the use of public fundraising by personal solicitation of committed gifts, supports many of the Committee's recommendations but suggests further work on several areas of the legislation.

In general the PFRA feels that the Committee's comments are very positive regarding public collections. The comments broadly endorse the plans set out in the Draft Bill but with a few important changes.
