Denis MacShane Welcomes Acknowledgement Of High Quality Education In Rotherham Schools

Denis MacShane welcomes the news that two Rotherham schools have received one of the highest accolades possible - inclusion on the national list of successful schools.

Broom Valley Junior School and Abbey Special School - are included on the list of particularly successful schools that offer high quality education in Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector's Annual Report of the School Year 2003/2004

The two schools received an outstanding inspection report in that school year. Their excellent OFSTED reports acknowledged the very good standards of education that each school provides.

MacShane said,
“I congratulate the staff, pupils and parents of the two schools, Broom Valley Junior School and Abbey Special School for their continued successes. It is very gratifying that this success is acknowledgement in Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector for inclusion in his Annual Report.  "

In the reports teaching, behaviour and the attitudes that children have towards learning were judged to be very good at least. The inspectors recognised the very strong partnerships with parents in each school and positive inter-personal relationships were a recurring feature within each report. Leadership was a particular strength in both schools, with it being described as both very good and excellent.

David Saunders, Head Teacher at Broom Valley Junior School, said: "We are really thrilled because being mentioned in the annual report is a celebration of the hard work and achievement of everyone concerned with the schools including children, parents, staff and governors."

This is the second time that the Abbey School has been recognised for its good provision by HMCI and Head Teacher Jane Naylor, said: ''We are delighted to be included in the Ofsted particularly successful schools list again.  It is a tribute to the hard work of staff, pupils and governors of the school with the full support of our parents. It endorses our new role in Rotherham as a school for pupils with Moderate and Complex Learning Difficulties and an Educational Resource Centre''
