Time for Labour to Pull Together Says MacShane

Blackpool conference

Denis MacShane has welcomed the unity shown at the Labour Party's Spring Conference. "It was good to hear the Prime Minister make a clear re-statement of Labour's classic values. 2006 marks the centenary of the first election to Parliament of Labour MPs. In 1906, Labour MPs came to pass laws to help people the Tories and Liberals never help. Today, Labour MPs are passing laws to get people into work, to help pensioners and to invest in communal, collective services like the NHS. We wear different suits, there are 97 women Labour MPs, and Britain no longer has an Empire as in 1906. But Labour MPs provided they stay united can still deliver what Britain needs. I was pleased that Tony Blair set out the aim of winning a fourth term in 2010 and I welcome his endorsement of the vital work Labour councillors undertake."  MacShane is pictured here with some of the delegates from Rotherham Labour Party which had one of the strongest constituency delegations at the Blackpool conference.

In two fringe meetings on European issues, MEPs singled out MacShane's work as Europe Minister to help promote Labour and progressive politics across the continent.
