Denis MacShane MP says: “I am committed to the battle against AIDS"

DENIS MACSHANE WELCOMES NEW UK FUNDING FOR GLOBAL AIDS BATTLE

On world AIDS day Denis MacShane MP gave his support to the UK's commitment to fight AIDS.

MacShane said:

"Today a further £27.5 million for global AIDS prevention was announced by the Prime Minister.  This yet again shows the UK’s commitment on World AIDS Day to tackling the world’s fourth biggest killer. We are giving £20 million to the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and £7.5 million to the International Partnership of Microbicides.

"This builds on the solid progress achieved at this Gleneagles G8 Summit’s where world leaders agreed to make fighting AIDS and HIV a priority. 

“These are yet more achievements for the people in Rotherham who have campaigned so long and hard through movements like the "Stop AIDS Campaign".   Your pressure, combined with a government committed to justice for the poorest have made the difference."

Hosting the EU ministerial meeting ahead of World AIDS Day, Secretary of State for International Development Hilary Benn said:

"Over 3 million people die every year from AIDS. The UK is making good on promises made at the Gleneagles Summit to ensure that everyone who needs it can access prevention and get treatment."
