Welcome to the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity.
Trees and Forests are the very lifeblood of our planet. They stabilise the soil, generate oxygen, store carbon, transform our landscapes and provide one of the richest habitats for flora and fauna. They offer us respite, inspire our imagination, creativity and culture, and provide many opportunities for recreation. It is crucial that we value and look after them. Our quality of life and our physical and mental health is enriched by living and working close to woods and trees.
Despite this, the UK is one of the least wooded countries in Europe with ancient woodland, our own equivalent of the rainforest covering only 2% of our land.
The protection, enhancement and expansion of native woods and trees is the focus of the Woodland Trust, the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. The Trust has four key aims which we want to see translated into action:
- No further loss of ancient woodland;
- Restoring and improving bio-diversity;
- Increase new native woodland;
- Increase the public’s awareness and enjoyment of woodland.
We achieve these aims both through acquiring woods and sites for planting – we own over 1100 sites across the UK covering 19, 000 hectares – and through our advocacy work.
This site aims to provide you with information on our key campaigns and provides links back to our main site www.woodland-trust.org.uk
