What we do

How we raise house-building standards

NHBC provides a broad range of services to the house-building and wider construction industry. Improvement in new homes is driven by the quality and combination of the services we provide to the industry, and through the customer feedback we receive on these services.

Key services provided:

  • Registering builders and developers who agree to comply with NHBC's Rules and Standards.
  • Setting and maintaining construction standards for new homes.
  • Inspecting at key stages of new home construction.
  • Providing building control services in England and Wales.
  • Providing 'Buildmark', the most comprehensive warranty and insurance policy for new homes in the UK.
  • The provision of technical and engineering advice, training, health and safety, environmental and energy-rating services for new homes and housing-related sectors.

An international authority

NHBC is internationally recognised as an example of best practice, and shares its expertise with similar organisations worldwide.

NHBC has an influential voice in Europe, contributing to the Association of European Home Warranty Organisations, the European Committee for Standardisation, the Consortium for European Building Control and the European Organisation for Technical Approvals.
