Energy Networks Association (ENA)
  • Distribution Price Control Review

Ofgem is looking to develop the process of setting the distribution price control and the structure of distribution charges as a foundation for the next distribution price control review, which will be implemented from April 2005. Ongoing structural changes within the electricity Industry, including the introduction of NETA, the development of new transmission access arrangements, and the development of competition in generation, supply, connection and metering raise several issues. Further structural changes are anticipated, as a result of the Government promotion or renewables and distributed generation, which must also be taken into account.

  • Distributed Generation

The Government's environmental target, to achieve 10 giga watts (GW) of Combined Heat Power (CHP) capacity by 2010 and to generate 10% of electricity from renewable sources by the same date, implies a substantial growth in distributed generation. A move to extensive renewables and CHP generation will substantially change the role of the transmission and distribution network operators and will require a new approach, new techniques and new investment in the distribution networks.

  • Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF)

EMF produced by power lines and substations remain a source of public concern despite extensive research carried out over many years. EMF issues feature regularly in the media reports and a number of UK and international groups continue to research theories linking EMF with cancer and other diseases.
