WELCOME to Beating Bowel Cancer's Government and Public Affairs website
1 in 18 of your constituents will be diagnosed with bowel cancer during their lifetime.
And sadly, half of them will die from the disease.
Bowel cancer is the second biggest killer cancer in the UK, and claims nearly 50 lives every, single day.
Yet, if diagnosed and treated in time, it is completely curable.
Our objectives at Beating Bowel Cancer are to raise awareness of symptoms, promote early diagnosis and encourage open access to treatment choice for those affected by bowel cancer. Through our work we aim to save lives from this common cancer.
A national charity, Beating Bowel Cancer was founded in 1999 and is based in Twickenham, Middlesex. We work hard to improve bowel cancer awareness amongst the medical profession, the general public, and within government. In particular, we focus on the areas of Prevention, Diagnosis (and Screening), and Treatment Choices, providing authoritative information on all aspects of the bowel cancer journey. We encourage people to communicate frankly about all aspects of this disease, and not to be embarrassed to talk about bottoms and bowels!
We have a committed team of both staff and volunteers dedicated to helping fight against bowel cancer. We are grateful to the many fundraisers across the country who do a fantastic job of raising money for the charity and indebted to our corporate sponsors who provide invaluable support for our work. We look to Members of Parliament and Lords to ensure that bowel cancer remains high on the government’s agenda, and to improve services for bowel cancer patients at grass root level.
Loud Tie Campaign – 31st January to 4th February 2005
Loud Tie is a national awareness and fundraising campaign organised by Beating Bowel Cancer. We encourage people to wear Loud Ties during the week, talk out Loud about bowel cancer, and raise vital funds for the charity whilst having fun at the same time.
We would urge all MP's to come and lend their support to this important cause, and to sign our Early Day Motion, sponsored by Dr Stoate MP.
