Amateur Swimming Association

Welcome

The Amateur Swimming Association is the English national governing body for swimming, diving, water polo, open water and synchronised swimming.

Consisting of eight Regions, the ASA organises competition throughout England, establishes the laws of the sport and operates comprehensive certification, education and licensing programmes for teachers, coaches and officials as well as its renowned Learn To Swim Awards scheme, which issues more than 2 million badges each year.

There are more than 1,600 ASA-affiliated swimming clubs across the country and more than 11.9 million people who swim regularly.

The ASA works with key partners to ensure everybody has the opportunity to learn to swim.

Key ASA projects and initiatives include the following:

Top Ups

Funded by the DfES, the £5.5 million “Top Ups” scheme aims to increase the number of children who can swim the required 25m at key Stage 2. Run nationally, Top Ups provides an intensive series of daily swimming lessons over a two-week period for children unable to reach the standard.

Everyday Swim

Everyday Swim is a pioneering national programme, led by the ASA and funded by Sport England, which aims to look at the barriers to swimming and provide best practice examples to affect a culture change across the country and get more people into our pools, for leisure, fitness and fun.

Kellogg’s Swim Active

Supported by Kellogg’s the Swim Active programme aims to get young children and their families into the pool through a variety of initiatives including free and subsidised swimming sessions, swimming lessons, sports rewards, family activity sessions and increased access for minority groups.
