Ministers warned over pensions fund

The government has been warned that it has not allocated enough money to the fund set up to assist members of insolvent pension schemes.

Ros Altmann, an expert in pensions economics and an adviser to the prime minister, warned on Tuesday that the sums allocated to the Financial Assistance Scheme, which is designed to help at least 65,000 members of underfunded pension plans, will provide aid to no more than a few.

Meanwhile the Express today condemns the "scandalously unfair" rules which are preventing some people qualifying for the basic state pension.
