Employees to get new rights
Labour will include a raft of new employment rights in its third-term manifesto, Patricia Hewitt, the trade and industry secretary, has said.
Interviewed in the FT, Hewitt says: "I have no doubt at all that a centrepiece of the manifesto will be a package of support for hard-working families, and we will be campaigning on that as a big part of the election."
The Mirror says the plans include pledges for eight days' extra holiday for many and extra cash benefits for new parents.
Hewitt also writes in the draft text for an IPPR leaflet that Labour's second term has "lacked the same strength" as its first four years in power.
"If we are to win a third term... we need, once again, a radical policy-rich manifesto," she says.
