D-Day veterans slam absent McConnell
Scottish D-Day veterans have criticised Jack McConnell for turning down an invitation to the ceremony honouring the soldiers who liberated Europe so he could attend a golf dinner.
Scotland's first minister was accused of insulting the memory of those who died during the Normandy landings.
McConnell declined an invitation from the French government because he had already accepted one from the Duke of York to a dinner celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
