Tuition fees to hit low income families

Lower middle income families will be hardest hit by the introduction of university top-up fees, new figures show.

A report compiled by the Commons library reveals that those most affected will be students from families with incomes of £25,000, after deductions.

Tory MP James Clappison, who is on the committee scrutinising the bill, described the changes as a "hammer blow" for modest earners.
