Minimum wage extended to young workers

The government has moved to crack down on the exploitation of young workers by extending the minimum wage to 16 and 17-year-olds.

A £3 an hour rate is to be introduced in a bid to tackle the low pay problems associated with younger workers.

The adult rate meanwhile is to rise by seven per cent to £4.50 - an increase which business leaders said would "bite more than ever before".
