Budget speculation mounts
Delivering his Budget next week, the chancellor is expected to rule out another assessment of the euro in the near future.
The FT reports that Gordon Brown will say that the UK and the euro zone remain no closer to converging than at the time of last June's assessment of the five tests.
In an article for the paper, former minister Stephen Byers says that ministers should be more pro-active in setting out the benefits of euro membership.
The FT also predicts a 35 pence rise in the minimum wage, which is expected to be set at £4.85 an hour from October.
Meanwhile, the Council of Mortgage Lenders has called on the chancellor to spare homeowners from any further financial burdens.
