The government's top scientist was told to cut his media contacts after attacking President Bush's policy on global warming, the Independent reports.

Sir David King received a memo from Ivan Rogers, the prime minister's principal private secretary, saying that rows over the risks of climate change would "not help us achieve our wider policy aims".
