Labour to back minimum wage rise

Labour is expected to include in its next election manifesto a pledge to raise the minimum wage to £5 an hour.

Ministers will take the first step towards their election promise on Monday when they will announce that, in response to a recommendation from the Low Pay Commission, the hourly rate for adults will rise in October from £4.50 to £4.85.
