Extra cash for the police has hit council tax bills, David Blunkett admitted yesterday.

The home secretary pledged that he will be "engaging heavily" with police authorities to resolve the problem.

"We are all in this together. Whether it's a precept or direct council tax, it all impinges on people's lives," he told the New Local Government Network.
