Pregnant women suffer at work

An Equal Opportunities Commission survey has found 21 per cent of respondents know someone who has experienced problems at work because of becoming pregnant.

Industry secretary Patricia Hewitt said managers were acting unlawfully and making a wrong decision in the interest of their own organisation when they acted against mums-to-be.

"Employers who discriminate against pregnant women are breaking the law and could be liable to pay compensation," she said.
