Women are twice as likely to develop breast cancer if they use hormone replacement therapy.

A new study from the Medical Research Council and Cancer Research UK has found that over the past decade HRT has been responsible for 20,000 extra cases of breast cancer in Britain.

The government's medical watchdog, the Committee on Safety of Medicines, has told GPs to discuss the research with patients.
