Writing in the FT, Conservative MP John Bercow says it is time for the government to put its own house in order when it comes to tackling the pay gap between men and women.

"The government should explain where it sees work of equal value unequally rewarded - and when it will remedy the injustice," he writes.

"Above all, it needs to practise what it preaches to the commercial sector and build in continual pay reviews to guard against the danger of new anomalies emerging."
