Cancer cash 'failed to reach patients'

Almost one third of funding earmarked to improve NHS cancer services in 2000/01 was not spent on the patients or services for which it was intended, the government's cancer tsar has said.

But Professor Mike Richards said things were now improving, with the target of a £570 million a year rise in spending by this year likely to be exceeded.
