School chief slams A Level reforms

The chief inspector of schools has branded the government's reforms of A Levels a failure.

David Bell said that Curriculum 2000, promoted by ministers as the biggest change to sixth-form study for half a century, had achieved much less than intended.

The introduction of AS exams had made only a small difference to students while putting schools under considerable pressure, he said.
