Edwina Currie has strongly criticised Margaret Thatcher's contribution to women in politics.

"She held us back by 20 years. Her policies towards women made us look Neanderthal," she said.

Writing in the new issue of Harpers and Queen, Currie adds: "Mrs Thatcher surrounded herself with good-looking blond men, all of whom were bland and English and did not have beards."
