Stem cell research receives extra funding

The government has announced it is giving stem cell research an extra £40 million in funding.

Lord Sainsbury, the science minister, said that stem cells have "the revolutionary potential to cure a range of life-threatening and debilitating diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, cancer, chronic heart disease and diabetes, by generating replacements for damaged tissues".
