Secret talks on the euro have taken place in Brussels between the Treasury and high ranking monetary officials from the European Commission, reports today's Telegraph.

The paper quotes "Whitehall insiders" claiming that a "very big operation" involving discussion with Brussels and leaders of countries inside the euro-zone had begun.
