Blair versus Brown on pensions

Tony Blair and Gordon Brown are at odds over proposals to set up a review aimed at finding an all-party consensus on how to tackle the growing crisis over pensions, reports today's Independent.

The prime minister is in favour of a new body to conduct a long-term investigation into pensions provision.

The chancellor however is said to believe such a move would be seen as a fudge and provoke accusations that Labour was using delaying tactics.

The government's green paper on pensions will be published on December 17.
