New appointee pledges to cut A and E delays

The new national service director of the NHS, Sir George Alberti, has promised to cut waiting time for accident and emergency care.

Alberti, a former president of the Royal College of Physicians, who is known to be close to Alan Milburn, said: "I think its unacceptable that anyone should have to wait substantial periods of time before being seen, diagnosed and treatments started."
