A leading healthcare expert has warned that the government is set to miss its 2005 target for in-patient treatment despite last week's cash boost.

Professor Nick Bosanquet says that the pressures of emergency treatment and the increasingly complex nature of treatment will mean that some patients will have to wait longer than six months for in-patient treatment.
