Lords defeats for governments
The House of Lords yesterday inflicted two defeats on the government. Peers voted against government measures, contained in the Export Control Bill, which would have given the government new powers to limit academic research regarded as allowing dangerous regimes to acquire British technology and know how for military use.
Peers also voted for tighter rules on the consideration of arms exports to poor countries.
