Treasury rejects Hain claim
Gordon Brown has rebuffed Peter Hain after he hinted at an early referendum on the single currency.
Treasury insiders insisted that the government's policy had not changed despite the minister for Europe's remarks.
Brown let it be known that predictions of an early referendum are little more than "idle speculation".
