The Independent reports that the Labour Party is set to endorse a document claiming the UK should join the European single currency or miss out.

The new stance, written by a policy commission co-chaired by foreign secretary Jack Straw, also reiterates the importance of the five economic tests, and will be discussed at the National Policy Forum today.

Also in the leaked document are plans for Labour to mimic methods used on the Pop Idol programme to re-engage voters with politics, through phone and internet polls on government policy.
