Teachers' pay boosts public sector pay growth

Public sector pay growth is outstripping the private sector for the first time in "many, many years", said Tony Blair yesterday.

The government has announced a pay deal for teachers with an inflation-busting 3.5 per cent aiming to tackle the recruitment and retention crisis in many schools. A shake-up of the salary structure will allow some schools to pay head teachers of up to £100,000.
