Female workers will be able to request employers to fill out questionnaires asking whether their male counterparts are paid higher salaries.

Bosses will not have to discuss private details or salaries but will be compelled to reveal whether men and women get equal treatment, trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt will announce this week.
