Michael Heseltine has warned William Hague that the Tories cannot win the election on an anti-European ticket. In an interview with London Business Review, Heseltine says that "the European issue is not going to win us the election".

He was also uncharacteristically coy about whether he would sit as a Tory in the House of Lords, saying only that "events would unfold". This has fuelled speculation that he would sit as a cross-bench peer.
