Bush rejects Kyoto agreement
George W Bush has sparked anger and raised the prospect of a deep rift with Europe after he ordered to the White House to find alternative approaches to climate change and expressed his "unequivocal" opposition to the Kyoto accords.
America's opposition now puts the future of the controversial Kyoto Treaty in jeopardy and could raise the prospect of a trade war should Europe respond in a similarly trenchant way.
