The government's medical chief, Professor Liam Donaldson, yesterday announced a three million pound advertising campaign to push home the message that the MMR vaccine is safe to use.

The campaign is backed by the Royal College of Nursing and the British Medical Association, who issued a joint statement saying that "our professional confidence in the MMR vaccine, its safety and effectiveness remains fully justified".
