Doctors who fabricate research results in order to win funding are putting the public at risk, according to the industry's Committee on Publication Ethics. In an editorial in the British Medical Journal, the committee states that medical research is now about "ruthless competition between institutions and individuals" and until that is changed, research fraud will be prevalent.
